Abigail
Jones

Working predominantly as a film maker, Jones’ works takes on a storytelling aspect when it comes to the visual arts, calling upon surrealism and uncanny imagery which takes form through sculptures in order to present her concepts and themes. Inspired in part by the writing of Barabara Creed's 'The Monstrous-Feminine' and various Science Fiction publications, Jones attempts to reflect on our ever-growing intimate relationship with the cosmos, and the fetishization in the search for 'alien' life, along with the concept of being surveyed from afar.

Using herself as a recurring character in her video work, along with a combination of greenscreen and found footage, Jones creates short low budget works to pay homage to the B Movie Science Fiction films though the decades.

“I’m fascinated by the circle - to me it represents the moon, the bosom, life - and I’m irresistibly attracted to it because it is infinite; I associate it with the cosmos. The infinity of space is more inspiring than anything else.” - Pierre Cardin

Moongazing

'Moongazing' is a short film that is intended to be displayed alongside a collection of other sculptural works in a larger installation, exploring various connotations surrounding our estranged relationship with our nearest natural satilite, the Moon. The personification of this cosmic form has been interpreted within art, literature, and cinema throughout milenia as two opposing genres. A romantic symbol that represents feminity, fertility, eternal life and love, and even as a motherly figure that dictates our planets tides. As a contrast however, the unknown nature of our neighbouring rock allows us to feel alienated, survayed, and reconnects us to the possibility that we may be alone in this vast universe, creating an impression of fear and terror. By combinging these themes of desire and aversion, we may learn more about our ever growing relationship with the cosmos and not take for granted the continuous presence of our desolate satilite.
